More than 25 years ago, whisky connoisseur and leader of the South Estonian Whisky Club Ralf Kalma asked himself a question: “Is it possible to create world-class whisky in Estonia?”
This courage led him in 2002 to Scotland, to Bruichladdich’s legendary whisky master
That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in Estonian whisky history.
Years of experimentation, patience, and dedication led to the first official maturation at PENINUKI Distillery in 2019. 2022. “Whispery Malt” was released – proof that Estonian whisky can be special and valued.
What does a whisky pre-order include?
The Dorpat Single Malt Whisky
- 700 ml numbered bottle of whisky
- Bottled from the first official batch (Batch No. 1)
- Private invitations to annual tastings
Each whisky bottle purchased from pre-sale comes with an invitation to an annual private tasting, for as many years as the age of the purchased whisky.
Tastings take place in Tartu, at Peninuki Distillery, and are only for pre-sale customers and free of charge.
What happens at the annual whisky tasting?
Distillery Tour
We start the evening with a welcome cocktail made from The Dorpat Single Malt new make spirit. Then we head to Peninuki Distillery’s production area, where we reveal the secrets of whisky production.
Tasting directly from the barrel
Each year, we take a small sample from the barrel of the very whisky you pre-ordered. We taste the new make spirit and samples from different vintages to observe how the whisky develops over time before it reaches the bottle.
Discussion about maturation, flavors and development
We talk about which oak barrels the whiskies mature in, how they influence the flavor, and what new ideas and batches are maturing. You will observe how the whisky’s identity grows over the years.

In 2025, only 12 exclusive cask fills will be completed.
